Furnace Repair

No heat, cold air, odd noises, or a furnace that keeps shutting off? We diagnose the cause and explain your options in writing.

If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm is going off, leave the home now and call 911 or PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 from outside. Do not switch lights or appliances on or off. Call us after you are safe.

What it is

Furnace repair starts with finding out why the furnace is not doing its job. A technician checks the thermostat, ignition, flame sensor, safety switches, blower, venting, and filter, and reads any error codes the furnace is reporting.

Furnaces have built-in safety controls that shut the system down when something is wrong. A furnace that keeps shutting off is often telling you something important. We find the reason rather than bypassing the safety.

Signs you need it

  • No heat, or the blower runs but the air is cold
  • The furnace starts, then shuts off after a few minutes
  • Banging, squealing, or rattling when it runs
  • A blinking light or error code on the furnace control board
  • Some rooms stay cold while others are fine
  • Yellow or flickering burner flames on an older furnace (they are normally steady blue)

How a visit works

The same steps every time, so you know exactly what to expect.

  1. Step 1

    Arrival notice

We text or call when the technician is on the way, so you are not waiting around wondering.

  2. Step 2

    ID at the door

Your technician introduces themselves by name and shows company ID before coming in.

  3. Step 3

    Shoe covers on

Shoe covers go on at the door, and drop cloths go down where we work.

  4. Step 4

    Diagnosis, explained

We show you what we found, with photos when it helps, in plain language.

  5. Step 5

    Written options first

You get written options with prices before any work begins. Repair and replacement side by side when both make sense.

  6. Step 6

    Nothing without your OK

No work starts until you approve it. Declining is fine, and there is no pressure.

For this kind of visit

  • Check that the furnace filter is not clogged and that the thermostat has power before you call. If neither fixes it, leave the furnace off and we will take it from there.
  • We inspect the venting and test for carbon monoxide around the appliance as part of a furnace diagnosis.

What it costs

Every system is different, so we don't quote prices over the phone. A technician looks at your system and gives you an exact, written price before any work starts. If you decide not to go ahead, that's your call.
